چکیده
Prevalence of Primary Hyperparathyroidism The most common cause of hypercalcemia in ambulatory patients is primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). Approximately one in every 1000 adults has the disease. Approximately 1 in every 200 elderly women has been found to have the disease. It is the second most common cause of hypercalcemia in hospitalized patients (where malignancy is the leading cause). With the widespread use of auto-analyzers (which include a serum calcium and phosphorus) and the confirming parathormone ligand assays, the prevalence of this condition has been increasingly detected in asymptomatic patients being studied for other diseases. Most frequently, the source is a solitary benign parathyroid adenoma or hyperplasia that can be removed surgically.

Imaging diagnostic standard in multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN)
Background Among all hereditary cancer syndromes MEN Type 1 and 2 are characterized by the concurrent but independent appearance of benign as well as malignant tumours. Neoplasias of parathyroid glands, pancreas, pituitary gland as well as neuroendocrine tumours of the stomach and intestinal wall are typical for MEN 1. Medullary thyroid carcinomas together with parathyroid adenomas and phaeochr...
متن کاملThe Subendothelial Space in Certain Endocrine Tissues
A subendothelial space between the parenchymal cell plasma membrane and the plasma membrane of the endothelial lining of the regional blood sinusoids has been reported in both adrenal cortex and medulla and in the corpus luteum (1, 2, 3). To date, such a space or interval has been seen to best advantage in the parathyroid (Fig. 1). As described in other endocrine tissues (vide supra) the subend...
متن کاملMolecular markers of neuroendocrine development and evidence of environmental regulation.
We constructed a human pheochromocytoma cDNA library and used differential hybridization to human pheochromocytoma and human neuroblastoma cDNA probes to isolate genes that are highly expressed in the adrenal medullary neuroendocrine tumor, pheochromocytoma, but not in the more immature embryonal tumor of adrenal medulla, neuroblastoma. Two cDNA clones, pG8 and pG2, were more highly expressed i...
متن کاملBilateral pheochromocytoma with ganglioneuroma component associated with multiple neuroendocrine neoplasia type 2A: a case report
BACKGROUND Composite pheochromocytoma/paragangliomas are very rare tumors composed of ordinary pheochromocytoma paragangliomas associated with neurogenic tumors. Several hereditary susceptibility disorders are known to be associated with pheochromocytoma/paragangliomas such as multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (2A or B). To the best of our knowledge, only four cases of composite pheochromocyt...
متن کاملA Rare Presentation of Primary Hyperparathyroidism with Concurrent Aldosterone-Producing Adrenal Carcinoma
Aldosterone-producing adrenocortical carcinomas are an extremely rare cause of hyperaldosteronism (<1%). Coexistence of different endocrine tumors warrants additional screening for multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes, especially in young patients with large or malignant masses. We present the case of a 40-year-old man with a history of hypertension that presented with an incidental left adre...
